### From the dinner table on Monday, February 23
Today’s dinner is a simple and economical Japanese home-style meal built around discounted fish and vegetables.
On the left is **miso soup with buna-shimeji mushrooms and wheat gluten (fu)**, leftover from yesterday.
Miso soup is often enjoyed over multiple days in Japanese households.
In the centre is **tatsuta-age (Japanese-style fried mackerel)** made with discounted saba.
I placed discounted shiso leaves underneath for added fragrance and colour.
On the right is **ohitashi-style okra**, made with discounted okra.
It was lightly steamed in the microwave and served with bonito flakes and ponzu sauce.
The total cost of today’s ingredients was **368 yen (before tax)**.
Japanese home cooking often highlights simple fried fish and lightly seasoned vegetables while keeping costs low.
*All prices are before tax, and an additional 8% consumption tax applies.*
