From the Dinner Table on Wednesday, September 9
On the left is the leftover miso soup from yesterday, made with maitake mushrooms and tofu.
In the middle is a comforting Japanese-style simmered dish made with boiled wild mountain vegetables (sansai) (198 yen), chicken thigh (182 yen), and some leftover atsuage (thick fried tofu) and carrot. Simple and comforting—one of those familiar flavours that just feels relaxing.
On the right is seared bonito dressed with olive oil, made with leftover rakkyo pickles, myoga (159 yen), and discounted katsuo no tataki (seared bonito, 319 yen, 20% off). I dressed everything with some of the rakkyo pickling liquid, olive oil (798 yen), and herb salt. The sweet-and-sour pickling liquid works nicely with the olive oil and bonito.
Today’s ingredient cost was 1,656 yen.
