On the left is a clear Japanese-style soup made with discounted shijimi clams (148 yen, half price), topped with chopped green onions.

In the middle is a large fried white fish fillet from the deli section (290 yen, half price). I served it on a bed of discounted baby leaf greens (49 yen, half price) and enjoyed it with ponzu citrus soy sauce.

On the right is a refreshing side dish made with cucumber (79 yen), myoga (Japanese ginger, 127 yen, 20% off), and shirasu (tiny boiled whitebait) that was left in the freezer. I dressed them with discounted karashi sumiso (mustard and vinegared miso) sauce (99 yen, half price) and added ground sesame seeds.

Today’s ingredient cost was 792 yen.
